The number of tourists visiting Indonesia to Malaysia at the 2010 reaches 2.5 million people more or improved continuously from the years except in 2009 compared with 2008.
“The Tourists to Malaysia Indonesia occupies the second place after a number of Singapore,” said the Ambassador of Malaysia to RI Dato ‘ Syed Afdzaruddin Syed Hassan Munshe in the opening of the “meeting of Indonesia and Malaysia Tourism Agency in Jakarta, Tuesday.
According to him, Singapore tourists visiting the country and its Arab it reached 13 million people, followed by Indonesia 2.5 million more tourists, Thailand l. 4 million, Brunei and China each 1.1 million and India 691000.
The number of tourists that visited Indonesia Malaysia recorded l. 217024 people in 2006, then b. 804535 in 2007, 2.428.605 in 2008, slightly decreased in number to be 2.405.360 in 2009 and increased again in 2010 to 2.506.509.
The tourism sector alone or known as ramble in Malaysia is the second largest contributor of foreign exchange after the petroleum sector.
In 2009, the tourism sector generates foreign exchange of RM55 billion (approximately USD18,3 billion), while the sector of oil scooped RM430 .6 billion (approximately USD143,5 billion).
While the Director of marketing Malaysia Tourism to the region of Moses Yusof express their that by 2020, Malaysia is targeting the arrival of the 36 million travelers expected to be supplying foreign exchange for RM168 million or about USD56 billion.
According to the notes, in addition to continuing to improve the quality of conventional tourism programme, Malaysia also is constantly working to develop new tourist programs such as shopping, tourism and education (training).
One of the programs that are promoted by the State and its Arab form “Malaysia My Second Home” i.e. programs that provide opportunities on a number of foreign nationals including citizens living in Indonesia for a long time in Malaysia (l0 years and can be extended).
Participants of these programs can have properties in Malaysia, bringing the car from the country of origin or buy it in Malaysia, obtain permission to work part time, bring the family including helpers and educational opportunities for children in the State and its Arab.
The meeting was attended by about 250 entrepreneurs a travel agent, hotelier and other tourism-related efforts aimed at improving cooperation and synergies development of tourism industry in both countries.(*)
