Victorian farm exports have hit a boom of over $8 bill, it’s believed to be a record. The dairy exports in Victoria had the strongest increase, and accounted for 86 per cent of all Australian dairy exports. Why do the remainder of the world want our Victorian dairy products?

Yarra Valley Dairy is one good excuse for the high increase. The Yarra Valley Dairy produces quality home made farm cheeses. Their Yarra Valley Dairy Marinated Feta, known locally as Yarra Valley Dairy Persian Fetta, has created a name for itself overseas. It’s a creamy silky textured cows ‘ milk cheese, marinated in olive oil, fresh thyme and garlic that gives this delicious feta a warm rich finish. It is available in the States, HK and United Arab Emirates and of course through Australia.

Mary and Leo Mooney started the tiny family business in 1995. Today they have 200 top quality cattle. Their cheeses are non-animal rennet, vegetarian and GM free.

As the name indicates, the farm is situated in the Yarra Valley, just one hour north east of Melbourne, Victoria, in one of the premier wine and dairy areas of Australia. On their property, close to the cheese factory, there’s a cheese shop open to the public. They offer you complimentary cheese tastings of five cheeses selected every day. Marinated cheeses, fresh cheeses, and matured cheeses – I can assure you will fall madly in love with at least one of the cheeses and will desire more. Select from their different cheese and biscuit platters, sit down, relax and revel in the striking view overlooking the Yarra Valley while the cheese is melting on your tongue. Make sure you don’t leave without taking some home with you. The cheese shop is open every day (except Xmas Day) between 10.30am and 5pm. They also provide other local Yarra Valley produce.

Hence come and find out yourself why the rest of the world looks toward Victoria for their farm produce.

The region is made of many producers, ranging from dairy, meat, berries, cherries, stonefruits, flowers, wine, beer, and cider. Many of those producers have farm gates, where visitors can purchase items.

A great day trip option, there is plenty to do over a number of days as well. Relax in the region and stay a while in one of the many accommodation venues offered, surrounding the Dairy. Look for accommodation in Yarra Glen. If you stay overnight, you are placed perfectly to enjoy an early morning Hot Air Ballon flight, looking over the beautiful Yarra Valley. A tour around the many winery locations, will also be worthwhile. Yarra Glen is just down the road, and offers you experiences that will make your visit memorable one.

May Noestt is a repeated visitor to the Yarra Valley, her zeal is for gourmet food and wine. Mary looks forward to going on a Melbourne day trip in the Yarra Valley and the Dandenongs at any time.
